Introducing Monica Steinbrech

Please join us in welcoming Monica Steinbrech, our new teacher for Orchestra and Chorus. Monica chose music as a career from an early age, “I knew I wanted to be a music teacher from the minute I picked up my clarinet”. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Iowa, where she studied with Dr. Maurita Murphy Mead.

In May of 2009, Monica graduated from the University of North Texas with a Masters in Clarinet Performance, and a Secondary Degree in Historical Musicology. While at UNT, Monica was a clarinetist performing in the Wind Symphony under the direction of Eugene Migliaro Corporon.

Ms. Steinbrech’s goal is to continue building the Orchestra program at CSMS, and to get the Chorus program off to a good start. Chorus has been absent from the curriculum for several years. She would like students in both programs to develop a better appreciation for music theory, and a more comprehensive, analytical understanding of music in general. She hopes to explore several genres of music with her students over the course of the school year, in the classroom and through performance. Monica is continuing her own studies, with research into Mendelssohn’s Oratorios and chamber music for clarinet by Brahms.

Her plans for the year include participation in two concert performances for Orchestra students, and a Spring Choral performance. Students will also be encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble competition. Ms. Steinbrech continues to play the clarinet (very well). We wish her the best of luck in her first year at CSMS.
