Mr. P’s Summer Reminders

Hello everyone, I hope that all of you are having a great summer! As the summer is quickly coming to an end, I just wanted all of you to please make sure that your students are practicing their instruments over the summer. It is very important that not only they maintain, but that they show a significant amount of improvement when they return from their summer break.

Please keep in mind that the All-State band auditions are on Saturday September 20th, so time to prepare is running out. We will be off to a very busy start and will not have a lot of time to catch anybody up. Also, I highly encourage everyone to consider investing in private music lessons for your students. Private lessons are very important for anyone that wants to be a better musician. The following names are local professionals who offer private music lessons:

Reminders

Parents,

First of all I would like to thank all of you for coming to our Spring Concert this past Wednesday night. It was a really fun night, and everyone involved did a tremendous job! My sincere apologies goes out to those students who were not listed on the program. I will be fixing those programs and making sure those students get a copy of the program with their names on it.

Also, I want to remind everyone who is coming back to band that Ramblewood Middle School is hosting an awesome band camp the first 2 weeks after schools ends. The camp is everyday from 1-4pm at Ramblewood. There is also a really big concert at the end of that. Please make sure you sign your students up if you are still in town. I will be there working with the clarinet section. If your students lost the flyer I have some extra ones. You can also e-mail Mr. Nista at john.nista@browardschools.com.

The next thing is we have a Awards Social going on Thursday May 29th at 7pm in our cafeteria. Every student will get an award, so please make sure you and your family attend. This will be a really fun night as well as a farewell to our 8th graders.

Finally, please remind your students that they need to be practicing this weekend for our finals next week. They need to know their scales. Also, don’t forget about the practice logs that are due the last week of school. They need to have 8 weeks worth of practice logs for 800 points. Today I will be upgrading their grades so you can have a better idea of how they are doing in class.

NEW FACEBOOK GROUP

I have created a new FACEBOOK group for the CSMS Band and Orchestra. Parents - if you don’t know about Facebook, your kids probably can explain it to you. It provides a more interactive environment where everyone can add or comment on photos, ask questions, start discussions, search for thier photos, and much more. It is also FREE to join. I recommend parents join to have visibility to your kids and their friends and stay ‘in the loop’.

Reminder

I would like to take this time to remind everyone that not only have I passed out a new calendar, but I have put that calendar on my most recent blog. There have been students asking me if there is a band parent meeting tonight, and if you look at the new calendar you will notice that we will not be having a meeting tonight. However, we are in the process of planning one final meeting to elect our new board members for next year. Please think about joining us as we get ready to have an even better year.

Congratulations to our Wind Ensemble for their wonderful performance yesterday at the annual MPA evaluation. Our Wind Ensemble recieved an excellent which is the second highest rating you can recieve. Congratulations!
