Billboards
I saw the same three billboards plastered over most of the city of Athens and its suburbs, and they seemed a fairly odd collection:
- An add which showed a young woman in a red cape or sarong-like piece of clothing, staring intently at a baby cradled in her extended arms, staring back at her ( I couldn't decide if it was an ad for maternity fashions, prenatal vitamins, or something to do with the upcoming elections)
- A Shaquille O'Neil billboard, in some stylized basketball pose, emphasizing SHOES
- And perhaps the most popular: a billboard showing a magnificently muscled white winged horse (Pegasus, I assume) flying, or perhaps sprinting above dark blue water, with the cryptic incription "BE You, BE Cooper". Cooper, I found out, was a cigarette brand. (I never did find out how to be 'you' by being someone else, or what the name Cooper had to do with winged horses. I guess I'll just never understand consumer marketing...)
There were also lots and lots of election billboards and posters. Everywhere. I'm told the Greek national elections are an interresting process, with several political parties, a knowledgeable electorate, and firmly held opinions. More on that subject later...
