 English poet, satirist, translator, and angler; was a close friend of
many mid-17th century poets, particularly Lovelace (whom he helped out financially), Waller, and Brome, as well as of Isaak Walton; translated numerous works from Latin and French, especially Montaigne's Essais; his essay Instructions how to Angle for a Trout or Grayling in a Clear Stream was included by Isaak Walton in the 1676 edition of Walton's classic The Compleat Angler as a continuation of Walton's own work.
